Dear All
Something a little unusual, but with a definite Irish flavour. Billy Murray and Carl Emery will be sparring also – a real first, two former world champions in the ring for the first time in many years! All are warmly welcome,
On behalf of Carl Emery and Billy Murray

Press Release - For immediate release
21 September 2010 - International Day of Peace,

A MARTIAL ARTS DEMONSTRATION BY THE PEACEFIGHTERS – ON A BOXING RING AT THE PLACE DES NATIONS, GENEVA !

Geneva - 10 September 2010

On the occasion of the UN endorsed International Day of Peace, to be celebrated on 21 September 2010, a boxing ring will be set up at the Place des Nations in Geneva. The PEACEFIGHTERS Association will organise a friendly kickboxing demonstration in the ring between 16.00 and 18.00. Boxers from the diverse communities of Northern Ireland, and more particularly from the Falls and Shankill Road areas of Belfast, will be performing out these martial arts demonstrations.

The PEACEFIGHTERS Association was formally launched at the UNICEF European HQ in Geneva on 17 April 2008. The launch was welcomed by Ireland's President, Mrs. Mary McAleese, as well as by members of the diplomatic community, including the British Ambassador to Switzerland and Swiss dignitaries. The PEACEFIGHTERS Association was set up with the aim of promoting peace and respect through sport.

The Association is the brainchild of Carl Emery (Switzerland) and Billy Murray (Northern Ireland), both former World Champions in Kickboxing. It brings together martial arts sportsmen and women from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland for inter-community sessions and international events (competitions, demonstrations, training sessions, etc). The activities of the PEACEFIGHTERS are focused more particularly on disadvantaged children and youth.

In addition to the Association’s founders, Carl Emery and Billy Murray, world renowned fighters Gary HAMILTON (Belfast, Northern Ireland), professional lightweight kickboxing world champion, and Ken HORAN (Galway – Republic of Ireland), middleweight amateur world champion, will be participating at the demonstration and all four will be carrying out kickboxing demonstrations on the boxing ring at the Place des Nations.

Entrance is free, and open to all.

Hi Everyone,

Myself (Rhona, secretary of GIA) and a few friends from P&G are organising a gala event on the 16th of November for Children in Need (pencil in date in your calendar). 50% of proceeds will be going to Swiss based childrens Charities Paidos www.paidos.org and Clair Bois www.clairbois.ch & 50% going to the UK’s Children in Need you can find out more about them on this website www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey.

The idea is to raise as much money as we can in the build up to a BIG gala event (where we raise even more!), which will be held in Mr Pickwicks on November 16th – the same night as the UK’s Children in Need TV show!

We would be delighted if you or your company could get involved perhaps by
1. Donating a prize for an auction for the Gala evening; and/or
2. Organising an event on the build up to the big night to raise cash; and/or
3. Getting your friends and family sponsor you to do something fun!

If you are interested in doing something please get back to me and I can give you more details on the logistics and publicity materials if you need. We have only around 6 weeks to make this a success so I’d be delighted if you could get back to me with feedback and ideas as soon as possible.

Thanks a million.
Take care.
Rhona

The Geneva Literary Aid Society is happy to announce its first event after the summer break. It's a hit piece of theatre which has scooped the top awards at the New York and Edinburgh fringe festivals and won critical acclaim in Adelaide, Boston, Dublin etc. It will embark on a UK tour after playing one night only in Geneva on Wednesday, October 17.

TOM CREAN - ANTARCTIC EXPLORER is written and performed by Aidan Dooley and celebrates an unsung hero of the ill-fated Scott and Shackleton expeditions to the South Pole in the early part of the last century. This is about the extraordinary life and times of a man who ran away from his Kerry home at the age of 15 to join the Royal Navy and whose 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition (1910-1913) to rescue two colleagues is regarded by historians as "the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration." But there is much more to his story than that.....SO BOOK NOW, SPREAD THE WORD AND COME ALONG EARLY FOR CHAT AND REFRESHMENT.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID:

Aidan Dooley gives a compelling solo performance in this ripping good yarn..." - THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Aidan Dooley's one-man show is a charming, funny, perfectly pitched account of an ordinary man who helped to turn the wheels of history. - THE SCOTSMAN

This is a grippingly vivid, surprisingly funny account of sheer heroism in the face of impossible odds. - ONSTAGE SCOTLAND

This one-man show is a genuine small pleasure, the kind of piece that the Fringe often throws up that gives you an insight into unseen and unsung lives. - THE GUARDIAN

This magnetic revelation of a fascinating character simply compels a standing ovation. - THE IRISH TIMES

Aidan Dooley's remarkable creation is one which is likely to remain long in the memory of its audiences - Edinburghguide.com

I'm looking for an apartment (3 pieces) in Geneva to sub-let. I can pay up to CHF1600 per month. Preferably in Geneva centre, i.e. not in Meyrin or Veyrier.
Any tips would be most welcome as I'm finding it very difficult!

Hi Folks...

Just a quick note to say that I'll be singing and playing guitar in a bar called The Seven on Wednesday 19th September from 21h00 onwards. It'll be a mix of my own original compositions and a selection of covers from various well-known singer-songwriters.

The Seven is on rue de Monthoux, close to the #1 bus stop.
